One For Stevie
Join us Saturday, August 7th at 6pm for this special concert.
at the Stonington Ball Field
The Returnables were a Deer Isle-based band of musicians who had been getting together to play in the Island 4th of July parade for years before keeping the momentum going in 1989 long enough to play a string of gigs (including a visit to Swans Island and a number of fuse-blowing appearances at the Legion Hall). The original Returnables played their last show in November of that year.
Steve Robbins Jr. – who led the Returnables with his energy and humor as much as his faithful Martin guitar, powerful voice, and ever-present cigar – passed away in July of 2020. This summer, on August 7th, his bandmates will pay tribute to him at the Stonington Ball Field: Frank Gotwals (guitar); Hank Whitsett (keys); Burt Leach (drums); Eric Beckman (bass); Brian Robbins (guitar) and the Returnables Horns – Kit Loekle (sax) and Tom Gotwals (trumpet) will crank up the music once again in Steve’s honor – Returnables style.
One for Stevie is an outdoor all-ages event sponsored by Opera House Arts. Starting time is 7 PM; Stonington Ball Field is located at 40 School Street, Stonington, ME. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Bud Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund.
