Cait Robinson Appointed as Artistic Director

Robinson brings both a National Directing Background and Local Upbringing to Opera House Arts’ Next Generation of Leadership

September 1, 2021

STONINGTON, MAINE—Opera House Arts is pleased to announce that, following a national search, Cait Robinson will become Artistic Director beginning September 19. Robinson joins Executive Director Tony Adams and General Manager Pam Getto on the leadership team.

“She's a great director with a deep knowledge of our local communities,” says Adams, “I'm excited to have her return to the Opera House. Her first professional experience out of college was directing a reading at the Opera House, so it's a homecoming in many ways. She will be a great partner as we build upon the amazing legacy of the Opera House to grow and evolve the organization for the future.”

“I’m thrilled to be returning home to Downeast Maine in this new role,” says Robinson, “and it is a special honor to join this incredible staff at such a pivotal moment in the American theater. The Opera House has a strong legacy of inventive, deeply engaged theater-making and multidisciplinary arts programming, and I look forward to creating shared experiences that both celebrate the local community and welcome new audiences and voices.”

A Brooklin, ME native and Bowdoin College graduate, Robinson’s recent productions include The Clean House at Portland Stage Company, Pinocchio at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Proclamation: World Sick and Proclamation: Unite at American Repertory Theater (ART), The House of Bernarda Alba at Ohio Northern University, and Gidion’s Knot and False Flag (world premiere) at Dramatic Repertory Company. She has directed workshops at Cincinnati Playhouse, ART, Portland Stage, The Lark, the Drama League, and New Repertory Theater, among others.

Robinson is a former Drama League New York Directing Fellow and headed the college Summer Intensive Program at Cape Cod Theatre Project. Past affiliations and training: Senior Directing Fellow at Cincinnati Playhouse, Lincoln Center Directors Lab, SDCF Observership program, Directors Lab West, American Conservatory Theater fellowship program, Portland Stage Company internship, Celebration Barn Theater, Bowdoin College, and the National Theater Institute (NTI). She is an associate member of SDC. More on Robinson can be found at cait-robinson.com

The Search Committee was chaired by David Stephens, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. Committee members included Tony Adams, John McVeigh, Joan Sorensen, and Julia Whitworth.
