STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES BY

LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS

Opera House Arts offers a strong and vibrant education program focused on arts integrated learning — learning in and through the arts — for all members of our communities.

The heart of this program is our ongoing work in the Deer Isle-Stonington elementary and high schools. We collaborate with teachers to provide arts-integrated learning opportunities for students in the classroom from kindergarden all the way through graduation. This year, we are offering Curricular Performance Units for Elementary and Middle School students, our multi-school poetry declamation contest for students in grades 5-8, and collaborating with the high school in a week-long Arts Toolkit Challenge!

For the island's youngest actors, we offer the PlayPen Youth Performance program, a month-long after-school theatre camp that culminates in a live performance of a new play!

During the summer, OHA partners with other local arts organizations to offer Island Arts Camp, a week-long multi-arts exploration for students from both here and away. We also have a growing internship program available to both high school and college students.

"We at Opera House Arts believe that the lives of all learners in our community can be enriched by the making, producing and sharing of performing arts."-  JOSHUA MCCAREY, Education Associate
