The Opera House Arts’ Box Office, Public Access Digital Media Studio, and back office is located in the small, historic building just in front of the theater on the corner of Main and School Streets. The box office is a building dating from the late 19th century that was originally an ice cream store located at the town’s ferry landing; was moved to mid-Main St. to the approximate location of today’s Boyce’s Motel; and after the 1910 fire which burned the large Opera House extension was placed on the Opera House’s original foundation, still serving as an ice cream and sandwich shop. In 1922, the building was turned into the town’s first bank, the Union Trust bank. The bank added the rear extension to accommodate its vault and stayed in this location until the construction of its existing office on east Main Street in 1954. In 2004 when Opera House Arts’ repurchased the property, reuniting the original Opera House corner thanks to a generous gift from S. Donald Sussman, it had been a realty office for many years, first Shepards Select Properties and then Greens Landing Realty.
