Nigel Chase Artist Statement

Nigel P. Chase directs the Quarryography Rock 'n Steel Band. This band is made up of members from Atlantic Clarion Steel Band and the community steelbands on the Blue Hill peninsula. The music is a compilation of material familiar to the players. During rehearsals, working with Alison and Mia, Nigel takes apart and weaves back together different pieces of music to create a score to accompany the action as it evolves in the quarry.
Nigel has been directing steel bands in Blue Hill since 1993. His father Carl Chase has been making and starting steelband programs in Maine and beyond since 1976.
